Saudi Arabia backs US charge Iran behind Gulf of Oman tanker attacks

RIYADH, June 14 (NNN-SPA) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that “the United States is absolutely confident that only Iran is capable of carrying out attacks similar to those that took place against two oil tankers in the Gulf and that the US assessment of available military and intelligence information confirm this”.

In press remarks to reporters at the State Department, Pompeo said the continuing threats by Iran and its arms in the region and its targeting the US interests and US allies in the region are frequent and this is the latest in a series of attacks, including targeting a pipeline in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and targeting Abha International Airport two days ago.

Iran wants to lift the maximum sanctions on it, but there is no justification for targeting international shipping lines, US Secretary of State said, pointing to his prompt instructions to the Charge d’Affaires of the United States Mission at the United Nations to discuss the consequences of this incident immediately with members of the UN Security Council.

The US Secretary of State said that Iran today ridiculed the Japanese diplomatic efforts by rejecting dialogue, and instead targeted a Japanese tanker in the Gulf.

“Iran is trying hard to disrupt the flow of international oil supplies across the Strait of Hormuz and influence world prices,” he said.
