UNITED NATIONS, Dec 11 (NNN-ACN) — United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalation of violence and loss of human lives in Haiti following the death of at least 200 people between Dec 6 and 8.
In a communique released by his spokesperson, Guterres asked Haitian authorities to guarantee that the perpetrators of abuse and violence will be submitted to justice.
The UN Secretary General issued his statement following the attack by an armed gang which killed at least 184 persons, including 127 men and women in the Wharf Jeremie neighborhood, in Cite Soleil, PL news agency reported.
Guterres asked for financial and logistic support for the Kenya-led Multi-national Mission, approved by the UN Security Council in 2003. He also called on all interested Haitian forces to step up the political transition process. — NNN-ACN
