BOGOTA, Dec 6 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Colombia’s state-owned oil company Ecopetrol and Brazil’s Petrobras confirmed the largest gas discovery in the Colombian history, following the drilling of the Sirius-2 well, located on the Caribbean region.
A related release has located the well, where drilling works started on June 19, 2024, on the area of Block GUA-OFF-0, 77 kilometers from Santa Marta, bearing a 830-meter water blade depth.
The preliminary assessment of the drilling results confirm volumes of gas beyond six billion cubic feet, the release noted, adding that this finding could increase Colombia’s current gas reserves by 200 percent.
By virtue of such finding, the Joint Venture comprising Petrobras International Braspetro as Operator (44.44 percent shares), and Ecopetrol (55.56 percent shares), will initiate acquisition bids of meteoceanic data, as part of the Production Development Project of this discovery.
The consortium is contemplating an investment of 1.2 billion dollars on exploration phase one and 2.9 billion dollars in the production development phase.
Actual production is supposed to start three years after all relevant environmental licenses have been granted, following the confirmation of the finding’s commercial feasibility, by 2027.
The four wells to be eventually developed may render about 470 million cubic feet/day for 10 years, through an innovative ‘subsea to shore’ design, the release indicated. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
