Zanzibar ranked second among Africa’s top tourist destinations

ZANZIBAR, Dec 5 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — ZANZIBAR welcomed 638,498 visitors in 2023, making it the second most preferred island tourism destination in Africa after Mauritius, which attracted 1,300,000 tourists during the year, the House of Representatives was told.

Tourism and Heritage Minister Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga reported that Seychelles ranked third with 350,000 visitors.

Minister Soraga highlighted Zanzibar’s recognition as one of Africa’s top five destinations for tourism investments, attributing its success to the region’s peace, the warm hospitality of its people and its rich cultural heritage.

“Zanzibar’s white sandy beaches, crystal-clear oceans and unique cultural traditions continue to captivate visitors,” the minister said. He added that the islands have repeatedly won awards for best beaches from Travellers World Wide Magazine.

The majority of tourists visit Zanzibar for leisure, drawn by its reputation for exceptional hospitality and world-class tourism experiences.

The minister made the remarks while responding to Mwanakwerekwe legislator Ameir Abdalla Ameir, who had asked about the factors positioning Zanzibar as a leading African tourism destination. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
