OTTAWA, Nov 30 (NNN-XINHUA) – A group of Canadian major news outlets, filed a legal action against ChatGPT creator, OpenAI, yesterday.
In a statement, the group, including The Toronto Star, Postmedia, The Globe and Mail, The Canadian Press, and CBC/Radio-Canada, said that, OpenAI regularly breaches copyright and online terms of use, by scraping large swaths of content from Canadian media, to help develop its products, such as ChatGPT.
“OpenAI is capitalising and profiting from the use of this content, without getting permission or compensating content owners,” said the statement.
The lawsuit was filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, yesterday, and is looking for punitive damages from OpenAI, along with payment of any profits that the company made from using news articles from the organisations.
It is also seeking an injunction, banning OpenAI from using their news articles in the future.– NNN-XINHUA
