MANILA, Nov 27 (NNN-PNA) – The number of Filipinos who tied the knot last year decreased by 7.8 percent, compared to that in 2022, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data, released yesterday.
The PSA said, 414,213 marriages were registered in 2023, down from 449,428 recorded in 2022.
Among the country’s 17 regions, the PSA said, CALABARZON, covering five provinces east, south, and south-east of Metro Manila or the National Capital Region, recorded the highest number of registered marriages in 2023.
Metro Manila recorded the second-highest registered marriages, followed by Central Luzon, north of Manila.
“These three regions comprised 38.7 percent of the total registered marriages in the Philippines in 2023,” the agency said.
On the other hand, the PSA said, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, in the southern Philippines had the lowest number of registered marriages in 2023, with only 2,162 marriages.
In 2023, February recorded the highest number of registered marriages, while November had the lowest number, the data showed.
The majority of the couples who got married were aged 25 to 29. Last year, the median age of marriage was 28 years old for women and 30 years old for men.
The data also showed that, most intermarriages were between Filipinos, Americans, and Chinese nationals.
About one in three intermarriages were between Filipinos and American nationals, while marriages involving Filipinos and Chinese nationals accounted for 9.9 percent, the data showed.– NNN-PNA
