ISLAMABAD, Nov 15 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani President, Asif Ali Zardari, said yesterday that, his country is committed to tackling the challenge of diabetes, by raising awareness and investing in prevention and treatment, to improve the lives of millions of Pakistani people.
In his message on World Diabetes Day, which was observed yesterday, the president called for collaboration between media, civil society, and the private sector, to raise awareness of the risks of diabetes to ensure early prevention.
“The disease can be controlled and even prevented, through proactive measures by adopting a healthier lifestyle, regular exercises, balanced nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight,” Zardari said.
The increasing cases of diabetes in Pakistan are primarily linked to sedentary living, poor dietary habits, and a lack of education about the disease, he said, while emphasising strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure, to ensure all individuals have access to affordable and effective diabetes care.
The president also stressed the need for alliance between national and international partners, to improve the country’s healthcare systems, implement preventive measures, and provide cost-effective treatment, to those living with diabetes.– NNN-APP
