Venezuela: Suspected arson at Monagas oil pipeline leaves five injured

CARACAS, Nov 12 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Venezuelan Petroleum Company (PDVSA) reported a fire engulfing the 26-inch gas pipeline in the state of Monagas (northeast), which left five workers injured and appears to be a sabotage against the national hydrocarbon industry.A statement from PDVSA indicates that the victims of the blast are currently being treated at health centers, where specialized medical attention and all the required support are being provided.

The statement adds that fire started on Monday morning in the Muscar-Soto gas pipeline of the Muscar Operational Complex, belonging to the Punta de Mata Division, Ezequiel Zamora municipality, in the aforementioned territory.

A multidisciplinary team, made up of various organizations from the oil industry, Civil Protection, the Bolivarian National Guard, Firefighters from the state of Monagas and PDVSA, has been reportedly deployed at the site since the moment the incident was reported.

The technical staff is following safety protocols to safeguard the integrity of the oil industry personnel and nearby communities, the release noted.

According to PDVSA the technical team is investigating “the strange circumstances of the incident, which makes it look as an attack on our industry.” — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
