Dubai Airport To Ban Single-Use Plastics From 2020

DUBAI, United Arab Emirate, June 11 (NNN-WAM) – Dubai Airports announced that, single-use plastics will be banned at consumer spaces, at the world’s busiest international airport, from Jan 1, 2020.

“At an airport that hosts some 90 million people per year, we believe we can make a tangible difference by eliminating single-use plastics in consumer spaces,” said Eugene Barry, executive vice president of Dubai Airports, in a statement.

On the World Environment Day last week, Dubai Airports, in collaboration with over 106 businesses operating at the Dubai International Airport, launched a campaign to showcase the positive impact by eliminating practices and materials that can harm the environment.

Take the staw, one of the the most overused single-use plastics, the distribution of more than 150,000 of them were prevented in just a day’s effort.

Dubai Airports recycles over 43,000 tonnes of paper, glass and other wastes every year, to limit their impact on the environment.

Over the past six months alone, Dubai Airports collected and disposed of 16 tonnes of single-use plastic bottles and bottle caps, the statement said.– NNN-WAM
