Iraqi President Calls For Unified Efforts To Address Regional Crises

BAGHDAD, Iraq, June 11 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi President, Barham Salih, called for unified efforts to address the current regional crises and to steer clear of the language of threat, amid rising tension between the United States and Iran.

Salih made the remarks, during his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, in Iraq’s northern province of Erbil, where the two sides discussed the latest political developments in the region, said a statement.

Salih “emphasised the need for cooperation and coordination, as well as, the adoption of serious dialogue among all parties, in order to unify efforts, to address the current crises and to avoid the threat language, so that peoples of the region can enjoy stability, security and economic prosperity,” it said.

The two officials also discussed “means to enhance and develop bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey, that serves the common interests of the two friendly countries.”

Their meeting came, during Cavusoglu’s visit to Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, during which, he participated in the ceremony of oath taking of Nechirvan Barzani, as president of the Iraqi Kurdish region.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Barzani vowed to “defend the rights, achievements, unity and interests of the people of Kurdistan, and fulfil responsibility properly and with loyalty.”

He also appealed for cooperation with Baghdad, to “find shared solutions within the framework of the constitution of federal Iraq.”– NNN-NINA
