NEW DELHI, Oct 23 (NNN-PTI) – One person was killed and five others reported trapped under the debris, after an under-construction building collapsed, yesterday, in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, police said.
The building collapsed in Babusapalya area of the city.
“Approximately five people are still missing and one dead so far,” a senior police official at the spot told media. “We have rescued approximately 14, and the operation to rescue the trapped ones is still underway.”
Immediately after the building collapsed, police and fire department teams rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations.
The victims were identified as workers, who were doing some construction work inside the building, at the time of its collapse.
The city has been witnessing heavy rainfall over the past several days. The incessant rains caused waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Deadly accidents due to failing infrastructure are common in India. Construction experts blame the lax administration and corruption in India, for flouting building rules, which often result in using poor quality materials, inadequate supervision and poor safety standards for workers.– NNN-PTI
