NAIROBI, Oct 8 (NNN-KBC) — The National Police Service (NPS) has deployed additional security forces to Tana River County following a deadly clash in Anole that left nine people dead and several others injured.
In a statement, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said preliminary investigations indicate that the clashes arose from tensions between two communities over control of a watering point.
“We have scaled up security operations in the area, with reinforcement teams from NPS and KDF, while the DCI have launched investigations to pursue the perpetrators of this heinous act,” said Kanja.
The violence, which erupted early Friday, led to a retaliatory attack in Nanighi Village, where four more victims were killed using crude weapons.
The attackers also set several houses, known locally as manyattas, ablaze.
The NPS has assured residents that the situation is under control and urged them to maintain peace while law enforcement officers continue to closely monitor the situation. — NNN-KBC
