Sri Lanka To Begin IMF Negotiations To Address Debt Crisis: President

COLOMBO, Sept 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, announced yesterday that, the government plans to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) immediately, and proceed with activities related to the extended credit facility.

In his first address to the nation as president, Dissanayake said, Sri Lanka is negotiating with relevant creditors, to expedite the process and secure necessary debt relief.

The president expressed confidence in gaining both domestic and international support, to secure the necessary debt relief for Sri Lanka.

“We are confident that we can gain the support of both the people of this country and the international community, and we believe that, through this collective support, we can achieve success,” Dissanayake stated.

He outlined the importance of building a united Sri Lankan nation, with a focus on creating a law-abiding, disciplined society, while ensuring social security for all citizens.

The president reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public service reform, aiming for a more efficient and honest system that serves the people.

The president called for a collective effort from all citizens, to create a thriving and diverse nation, while also acknowledging the role of women and individuals with disabilities, in shaping Sri Lanka’s future.– NNN-XINHUA
