New Zealand’s Kiwifruit Exports Up 20 Percent Annually

WELLINGTON, Sept 23 (NNN-RNZ) – New Zealand’s kiwifruit exports were valued at 3.1 billion NZ dollars, in the year ended Aug, 2024, an increase of 20 percent when compared with the year ended Aug, 2023, according to the statistics department Stats NZ today.

“Kiwifruit export values for the season, so far, are the highest they have ever been,” said Viki Ward, Stats NZ international trade manager.

“Growers in New Zealand are increasingly planting gold, and now red, kiwifruit, to capture greater export value in markets like China and Japan,” Ward said, adding that, gold kiwifruit usually has a higher unit price than green.

Gold kiwifruit exports were 2.4 billion NZ dollars, up 24 percent from the year ended Aug, 2023, driven by an increase in quantity which was up 23 percent, Ward said, adding that, green kiwifruit exports were 737 million NZ dollars, up 9.9 percent over the same period, driven by an increase in price, which was up nine percent.

The top destination for gold kiwifruit is China, while the top destination for green is the European Union, she said, adding, the kiwifruit export season is typically from March to Nov.– NNN-RNZ
