DAR ES SALAAM, Sept 23 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Tanzania’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced the successful completion of bilateral procedures to open the chili export market to China.

This was revealed by the Director General of the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA), Prof Joseph Ndunguru, who stated that exporters must register with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) through TPHPA to export chilies.

“As of September 6, these chilies produced in Tanzania are now permitted for export and trade in China.

Exporters must comply with outlined requirements, including permitted varieties covering all capsicum species, whether fresh or dried,” he explained in a statement issues recently.

He further outlined key requirements, such as the necessity for production farms and pack-houses to be registered with TPHPA, along with obtaining an exporter traceability code for identification.

All farms registered to export chilies to China must adhere to best agricultural practices and integrated pest management to control quarantine pests, including fruit flies, leaf miners and bacterial blight.

Prof Ndunguru emphasised that the processing, packaging, storage and transportation of chilies must comply with the protocols signed between Tanzania and China. He confirmed that TPHPA will oversee the implementation of these regulations. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
