Kenyan, Haitian police intensify efforts to reclaim gang-controlled areas

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Sept 21 (NNN-KBC) — Kenya’s Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission working with the Haiti National Police (HNP) has intensified efforts to restore order in regions that have long suffered from gang dominance.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the joint operations have led to a return to normalcy in key areas such as Downtown Port-au-Prince, Ganthier, and Delmas.

The NPS also reported that several notorious gang members have been arrested since the operation began.

“The MSS team in Haiti and the Haiti National Police (HNP) have scaled up joint operations aimed at bringing normalcy to gang-controlled areas, including Downtown Port-au-Prince, Ganthier, and Delmas,” the NPS stated.

The NPS further disclosed that a contingent of officers from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) arrived in Haiti on Sept 12 to reinforce the MSS mission.

The unit, led by Colonel Kevron Henry from Jamaica, will support Kenyan Police Commander Godfrey Otunge in advancing the mission’s objectives of stabilizing Haiti and ensuring long-term security. — NNN-KBC
