UNITED NATIONS, Sept 21 (NNN-XINHUA) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday morning by phone, a UN spokesman said.
In the phone call, Guterres and Maduro discussed the political situation in Venezuela, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN chief, at a daily briefing.
Dujarric said the secretary-general expressed concern over reports of post-elections violence and allegations of human rights violations in the South American country.
“He stressed the need to resolve any political dispute peacefully, through genuine and inclusive dialogue,” said the spokesman, adding that the UN chief also took note of the positions of the Venezuelan president regarding the situation in the country. — NNN-XINHUA
