49 Injured In Road Accident In Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sept 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – A total of 49 people were injured in Nagala, located in central Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, after two buses collided last night, local police reported, today.

The Police Spokesman’s Office said in a statement that, a Sri Lanka Transport Board bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, rear-ended a privately owned bus, transporting garment workers.

According to the statement, the injured passengers were taken to regional hospitals, and the driver responsible for the accident has been arrested. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Motor vehicle accidents are common in Sri Lanka. In 2023, there were 2,557 deaths resulting from 2,200 fatal traffic accidents.– NNN-XINHUA
