ISLAMABAD, Sept 4 (NNN-APP) – The Bangladesh cricket team grabbed a clean sweep victory over Pakistan, in the two-match Test series by winning the second consecutive encounter by six wickets, yesterday, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the neighbourhood of capital Islamabad.
On the fifth day of the second match of the series, Bangladesh successfully chased a low target of 185 runs set by the hosts, with the responsible performances of their batsmen, including Zakir Hasan, team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan.
On the opening day, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first, and later all out Pakistan at 274 runs. In its first innings, Bangladesh went into deep cries after losing six wickets at only 26 runs, after Pakistani pacers made their balls talking at the grassy wicket, before Litton Das (138 runs) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78 runs) helped their team reach 262.
At the end of the third day, the commentators said that, the match was likely to result in a draw, but Bangladeshi bowlers stunned spectators by blowing out Pakistan at 172 runs off 46.4 overs.
Litton Das was named player of the match, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the award of player of the series.
With its first-ever Test series victory over Pakistan, Bangladesh has jumped to fourth place at the table of the World Test Championship.
Since a win against South Africa in early Feb, 2021, Pakistan had never won a Test match at home, as they had drawn four Tests and lost six.
“It means a lot; we can’t express how happy we are. The bowling unit was very impressive – their work ethic was crucial, and everyone was honest with themselves, wanting to win,” said Bangladesh team captain, Shanto.
“Everyone chipped in; it was a total team effort, including those who didn’t play but worked hard in the field. That’s how we achieved this result, and I hope this culture continues,” added Shanto.
Pakistani captain, Shan Masood, expressed his disappointment over the loss, saying, “We haven’t learned our lessons. I think now it’s time we realized that … we could have bowled their side out, especially in this game, when they were 26 for 6, we let them back in. Test cricket demands you to be fit for five days, whether that’s a batsman or a bowler.”– NNN-APP
