DODOMA (Tanzania), Aug 25 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — MINISTER for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde has applauded stakeholders for organising the Tanzania Mining and Investment Conference 2024, saying the forum will open and promote the country’s investment opportunities for both local and foreign investors.

The conference is set to take place on Nov 19-21 this year in Dar es Salaam.

He said the conference will enable Tanzanians to learn a number of issues related to mining activities, manage the mining sector and demonstrate effective practices in the area.

He said the conference is set to highlight the importance of collaborative efforts to drive growth, ensuring that the benefits of mining extend beyond mere economic gains to positively impact the social and environmental landscapes of the country.

“About 16 per cent of the country has been covered with high resolution geophysical data.

This provides more detailed information on the structures that are potential for mineralization and the areas that investors can establish exploration targets,” Mavunde said.

He added: “By recognising the importance of high-resolution data, the government has prioritised high resolution activities in the remained unmapped areas.

The plan is to cover the whole country by high resolution mapping with priority to discover potential critical minerals.”

He emphasised that the conference will highlight Tanzania rich mineral resources and provide an opportunity for local and international investors to discover the huge potential of mineral exploration projects, mineral benefaction and value addition from numerous mineral categories.

The minister pointed out that Tanzania has been largely exporting raw minerals without significant processing, missing out the opportunity to capture a larger share of the value chain.

“By encouraging local processing and benefaction of minerals, the country can create a more sustainable and inclusive mining industry that benefits local communities and the economy as a whole,” Mavunde concluded.

Executive Secretary of Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM), Engineer Benjamin Mchwampaka said the conference aims at showcasing the immense potential of Tanzania mining sector while promoting responsible and inclusive mining practices.

“The conference will provide a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights and identify strategies for enhancing the sector contribution to the country economy and sustainable development,” he said.

He said TCM is committed to ensuring that the mining sector continues to contribute significantly to the growth of the country’s economy.

“The discussions, insights and strategies that will emerge from this conference will be vital in shaping the future of mining sector in Tanzania.

I look forward to the collaborative efforts of all participants as we work together to enhance the sector’s contribution to our nation’s prosperity,” Mchwampaka said. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
