Kyrgyzstan Tightens Sanitary, Quarantine Measures To Prevent Mpox

BISHKEK, Aug 22 (NNN-KNA) – The smallpox situation in Kyrgyzstan is stable, and precautionary measures are being implemented, according to the press service of the country’s Health Ministry.

The ministry reported favourable epidemiological conditions in the country, regarding mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, and the absence of any cases.

The World Health Organisation, on Aug 14, declared the mpox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, for the second time in two years. A sharp increase in mpox cases has been noted in some areas of Africa, with the disease transmitted from person to person.

To prevent the introduction of the mpox virus into Kyrgyzstan, sanitary and quarantine measures have been strengthened at airports, train stations and border crossings, with special attention to citizens arriving from countries with reported mpox cases.

The ministry also advises citizens planning trips to countries with confirmed cases of mpox, to take necessary precautions.– NNN-KNA
