JAKARTA, Aug 20 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia’s health authorities are stepping up its health screening scheme for foreign arrivals, including foreigners coming as state guests, as part of efforts to prevent the spread of mpox virus.
“We increase our vigilance, especially at checkpoint entrances. We share questionnaires to foreigners for them to fill, including invited guests from other countries. They need to declare their disease history, contact activities and the last travel destination,” Health Ministry’s acting Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Yudhi Pramono, said in a statement, yesterday.
By screening the data history, Pramono said, the authorities would map out the guests’ countries of origins and advise them not to continue travelling, if they were sick and showed symptoms of mpox infections.
He said, preventive actions were taken after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared last week that, mpox virus had become a global concern, citing a growing number of cases in African countries.– NNN-ANTARA
