Tunisia Arrested 10 In Mediterranean Smuggling Attempt

TUNIS, Aug 17 (NNN-TAP) – The Tunisian National Guard, announced yesterday that, it has arrested 10 Tunisian nationals, attempting to illegally cross the Mediterranean to Europe.

The arrests took place on Thursday, off the island of Kerkennah, in the south-eastern province of Sfax, according to a statement on the National Guard’s Facebook page. The migrants, including two children, were found hiding in a fishing boat.

The operation also led to the arrest of a woman, believed to be the organiser of the smuggling attempt. Both the migrants and the organiser were taken to the Sfax naval base and handed over to the National Guard for legal processing.

Tunisia, located in the central Mediterranean, remains a major transit point for illegal immigration to Europe.– NNN-TAP
