Tanzania secures major honey export deal with China

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 16 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — The Tanzanian government has taken a significant step towards elevating its beekeeping sector by securing an export deal with China.

The Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dustan Kitandula, revealed that  the government is committed to ensure that the nation honey meets international quality standards, a move poised to significantly enhance the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Dar es Salaam on Thursday Kitandula highlighted that the nation’s honey and bee product exports currently generate more than $77 million annually.

He also said the newly signed agreement with China is expected to open up greater opportunities for Tanzanian beekeepers, encouraging them to increase production to meet the growing international demand.

On his part the Minister of Administration and Chief of Customs from the People’s Republic of China Yu  Jianhua stated that China, with its massive population, requires around 32 million tons of honey each year.

He said the demand presents a lucrative opportunity for Tanzania to expand its honey production and establish a stronger presence in the global market.
