Sri Lankan Workers’ Remittances Surged 10.3 Percent In First Seven Months Of This Year

COLOMBO, Aug 12 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan workers remitted 3.71 billion U.S. dollars, in the first seven months of this year, a 10.3 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the central bank.

In July, remittances stood at 566.8 million dollars, up from 541.0 million dollars a year earlier.

Sri Lanka’s external sector performance, in the first half of this year remained positive, due to higher inflows in the form of workers’ remittances, and earnings from tourism, the central bank said last week.

Workers’ remittances are among Sri Lanka’s top foreign revenue earners.– NNN-XINHUA
