PHNOM PENH, Aug 11 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia registered 3.03 million air travellers during the first half of this year, up 22 percent from 2.48 million over the same period last year, said a State Secretariat of Civil Aviation’s report, yesterday.
The report said, international and domestic airlines had operated a total of 28,725 flights to the kingdom’s three international airports, during the Jan-Jun period this year, up 16 percent from 24,725 flights over the same period last year.
State Secretariat of Civil Aviation’s Undersecretary of State and spokesperson, Sinn Chanserey Vutha, is confident that the Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), which was put into commercial operation in Nov, last year, will help attract more international airlines and travellers to Cambodia.
“With a 3,600-metre runway, the SAI is a 4E-level international airport, that can handle long-distance flights from across the world,” he said.
“We hope the airport will attract new international airlines to operate direct flights to Siem Reap province, the home of the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park,” he said.
The SAI is currently the kingdom’s biggest airport, and is the main international gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park.– NNN-AKP
