Nicaragua: New China-built airport will be able to handle 3.5 million travelers

MANAGUA, Aug 9 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Punta Huete international airport that Nicaragua will build in collaboration with China, will be able to receive 3.5 million travelers a year to boost the economic development of the country.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) Oscar Mojica in recent statements to the program Revista en Vivo on Channel 4 television, in which he specified that this aerodrome will be category 4F with a runway of over 3,600 meters in length.

“This means that it will be able to accommodate larger aircraft without weight and balance restrictions,” explained the head of the MTI.

He added the air terminal will also allow direct flights to Nicaragua from the most distant latitudes and regions of the world, which means an important advance in economic and all kinds of relations with the rest of the world. During his speech, the minister referred to the import of machinery that arrived in the country last week from China, which will be used in the construction of the airport.

“This is also a historic milestone, that for the first time in 60 years, Nicaragua is undertaking the construction of a new airport with extraordinary characteristics to connect our country with any region of the world,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, Mojica commented on the construction of the new port of Bluefields on the South Caribbean coast, also considered a large-scale initiative that the Sandinista Executive will carry out.

“Our good government is characterized by taking on these challenges with great strength, with great determination and with the ability to ensure all the necessary elements so that these great challenges become reality within reasonable time frames,” he stressed.

According to the Nicaraguan authorities, relations with China are advancing at a steady pace, as reflected in the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement since January, and the recent inauguration of a direct maritime route. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
