BRASILIA, Aug 7 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — At least 14 municipalities in six Brazilian states declared a state of emergency due to the drought, reported the Secretariat of Civil Protection and Defense.
The Brazilian Disaster Classification and Coding specifies that the situation was caused by a prolonged period of low or no rain, in which soil moisture’s loss is greater than its replacement.
The public emergency scenario recognizes an abnormal environment, caused by disasters, such as climate change, causing damages and losses that imply the partial compromise of the response capacity of public power.
The absence of rain causes a series of difficulties for agribusiness, not only due to the direct influence on harvests but also to reach the entire production chain and distribution logistics.
Low soil moisture is one of the biggest causes of delayed planting in Brazil. The lack of regular rains during plant development affects the final quality of most agricultural products.
