ZANZIBAR, Aug 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — As Tanzanians prepare for local government election this year and general election next year, Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi has asked Tanzanians to pray for peace, asking for voters to vote for leaders who are committed to serve them.
Mwinyi said safeguarding peace must be a priority for all Tanzanians since there could be no implementation of any development programmes in absence of peace.
“Let us keep praying for the peaceful elections and political stability because national unity remains crucial for us in achieving development goals,” he said while speaking to fellow Muslims after joining them for the Friday prayer held at Rahman Masjid (mosque), Taveta, in Urban-West region.
According to Mwinyi, it is difficult to achieve development goals without guaranteeing peace and stability in the country and that every Tanzanian has a great role to play in maintaining the prevailing stability.
He said the Muslim community and all people of Zanzibar, particularly young people should reject getting involved in any acts that may disrupt peace.
“We believe that all Tanzanians are crucial in making decision through voting, we must therefore avoid any kind of peace-disrupting acts that may end up dividing the nation,” he emphasised.
Last week, during similar occasion, Mwinyi called upon the public to protect children and ensure they are well nurtured to grow morally because they are the future leaders.
He explained that bad Zeal to fortify unity, peace and immoral behaviours in the community are contributed by children not brought up well and that roles of adults particularly parents should support, love and develop a child or children within religious principles and best cultural values.
“We need to work collectively at all levels to ensure that all children at home and in all learning centres including Quran and nursery schools, grow up to be good citizens to eliminate or minimise crime,” said Mwinyi.
He said that nurturing of children shouldn’t be for parents or the government alone, but it is the responsibility that requires all adults regardless of their career, economic status and education differences, to get involved.
Mwinyi encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that children and teens attend school and complete studies as required.
“We must bear in mind that globalisation and the effect of social media platforms have not spared children and youths, we must therefore stay close to them for proper guidance,” he said. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
