COLOMBO, Jul 28 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s navy and coast guard, seized over 27,330 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves, so far, this year, the navy said in a statement, yesterday.
The navy said, they seized 1,276 kg of Tendu leaves, floating in the seas off Kalpitiya in north-western Sri Lanka on Friday, which was the latest seizure of smuggled Tendu leaves.
The contraband was handed over to local authorities for legal action.
The navy said it conducts regular search operations and patrols in coastal areas of the country, with a view to preventing the influx of a wide range of illegal items into the country.– NNN-XINHUA
