Tanzania, China experts chart ways to enhance science subjects teaching

DAR ES SALAAM, July 24 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Experts from Tanzania and China met in Dar es Salaam to find best ways of deploying innovation and research findings in developing the teaching of science subjects.

The one day meeting brought together the experts from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and Zhejiang Normal Universityy from China.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Director of Higher Education, Prof Peter Msofe unveiled this recently in the second meeting where he represented the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Prof Carolyne Nombo.

Prof Msofe said that the presence of such a meeting went in line with the government’s vision to improve the education sector in the country, which emphasised science education, mathematics, research and creativity.

“The presence of this meeting here in Dar es Salaam goes in line with the government’s vision in increasing the teaching of science subjects at all levels.

“In our curricula that have been created now, it wants to make the student have the ability to know what is happening in the world now and in the future.

“We want to create a student who will grow up and learn for now and be able to compete in the world,” he said.

The UDSM Vice Chancellor, Prof William Anangisye said that the meeting could not have been held if there were no studies done.

“We have gathered the researchers and want them to explain the results about science. Nowadays the world emphasises science and technology and in order to be comfortable you must deal with science and digital education,” Prof Anangisye emphasised.

He said that UDSM has been allocating more than 3bn/- every year for research therefore the presence of the meeting is the result of the research being done between two universities.

He said the cooperation between UDSM and  Zhejiang Normal Universityy from China through digital technology will help reduce the various challenges facing the education sector, saving time and costs. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
