Tokyo-Osaka Bullet Train Service Fully Resumes After Partial All-Day Halt

TOKYO, Jul 23 (NNN-NHK) – Bullet trains connecting Tokyo and Osaka resumed full service today, the operator said, after a derailment accident involving maintenance vehicles caused an all-day suspension on part of the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, the previous day.

Central Japan Railway Company said that, all train services on the bullet train line resumed as normal, starting with the first train of the day at 6.00 a.m. local time, this morning, following the conclusion of restoration work late yesterday.

The Tokaido Shinkansen Line, which connects the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, that constitute Japan’s three largest metropolitan areas, was significantly disrupted yesterday, after a maintenance vehicle rear-ended another, on the eastbound track in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.

According to the operator, the accident left two workers injured and led to the cancellation of 328 train runs, affecting approximately 250,000 passengers. Shinkansen trains were cancelled between Nagoya and Hamamatsu stations, throughout yesterday.

Central Japan Railway Company, said that, a brake problem on one of the vehicles apparently caused the accident and that, it plans to conduct a mass inspection of all maintenance trains and investigate the cause of the accident.– NNN-NHK
