US: 2 killed in plane crash near air show site in Wisconsin; search for missing plane in Alaska continues

NEKIMI (Wisconsin, US), July 23 (NNN-XINHUA) — Two people on board a plane were killed after their aircraft crashed in a farm field near the site of an air show in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on Monday, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to the crash in the eastern Wisconsin town of Nekimi on Monday afternoon, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said.

The names of the people who were killed were not released pending notification of relatives.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

The plane crashed about 3 kilometers south of the site of the EAA AirVenture air show at Oshkosh’s Wittman Regional Airport. Monday was the first day of the weeklong event, the Oshkosh Northwestern reported.

Meanwhile, the US Coast Guard continued the search for an overdue plane with three people aboard in the state of ALASKA, officials said.

Searches were suspended Sunday overnight but resumed Monday morning, the Coast Guard said.

Alaska State Troopers received a report from the Coast Guard of a missing plane shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday local time, according to the statement by the state Department of Public Safety.

The single-propeller, 1948 Beach Craft Bonanza was flying near Mount Crillon in Southeast Alaska with a pilot and two passengers.

The plane did not arrive on schedule in Yakutat, about 442 kilometers northwest of Juneau, the state’s capital city.

Search efforts near Fairweather Mountain Range were coordinated with the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center and troopers, the Coast Guard said in a social media post. — NNN-XINHUA
