Sailor Missing After Indian Navy’s Warship Severely Damaged In Fire

NEW DELHI, Jul 23 (NNN-PTI) – A sailor went missing, after a fire broke out aboard the Indian Navy’s warship, INS Brahmaputra, in Mumbai dockyard, officials said yesterday.

According to defence ministry officials, the warship was undergoing maintenance at the naval dockyard in Mumbai, when it caught fire on Sunday evening.

“The fire was brought under control by the ship’s crew, with assistance of firefighters from ND-Mbi and other ships in harbour, by yesterday morning. Further, follow-on actions, including sanitisation checks for assessment of residual risk of fire were carried out,” a statement from defence ministry said.

Officials said, yesterday afternoon, the ship experienced severe listing to one side (port side).

“All personnel have been accounted for, except one junior sailor, for whom the search is in progress,” the ministry said.

The Indian Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.– NNN-PTI
