Egypt Condemns Israeli Far-Right Minister’s Visit To Al-Aqsa Mosque

CAIRO, Jul 19 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt, yesterday, condemned Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir’s visit to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry labelled the move, coincided with the Israeli Knesset’s passing of a resolution rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state, “an obvious evasion of international legitimacy resolutions, and the terms of reference of the peace process.”

Egypt warned that, these provocative measures amid Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and repeated incursions into the West Bank represent “irresponsible escalations.”

Egypt called on the active international parties to assume their responsibilities in protecting Palestinian rights, respecting Islamic and Christian holy sites, and putting an end to the repeated Israeli violations.

“Egypt will continue its tireless efforts to reach a just, permanent, and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestine State,” it added.

Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound earlier yesterday, urging to press ahead with the war against Hamas in Gaza “until victory.”

This is Ben-Gvir’s second visit to the flashpoint site, known to Jews as Temple Mount, since the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out in the Gaza Strip on Oct 7, last year. He visited the site in May to protest countries recognising Palestinian statehood.

For months, mediators from Egypt and Qatar have been trying to broker an agreement to end the conflict in Gaza, that has been going on for over nine months, and to return the more than 100 Israeli hostages still being held there.– NNN-MENA
