Indian Navy Rescued Nine From Capsized Oil Tanker Off Oman Coast, Recovered One Body

NEW DELHI, Jul 19 (NNN-PTI) – The Indian Navy rescued nine people from a capsized oil tanker, off the Oman coast, and recovered one body, officials said yesterday.

The rescued sailors included eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan citizen.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and the government is ensuring all possible assistance,” said Kirti Vardhan Singh, India’s federal junior foreign minister, in a statement.

On Wednesday, the Indian Navy deployed a warship, along with a maritime surveillance aircraft, to assist Oman in search and rescue operations for the missing oil tanker.

The Comorian-flagged oil tanker went missing on Tuesday with 16 people, including 13 Indians onboard, after it capsized 25 NM south-east of Ras Madrakah.– NNN-PTI
