JAKARTA, Jul 19 (NNN-ANTARA) – A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted, off Indonesia’s western Bengkulu province, last night, without generating giant waves, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.
The quake occurred at 22:01 Jakarta time (1501 GMT), with the epicentre situated 144 km north-west of Enggano island, and a depth of 10 km under the seabed, the agency said.
The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, as the tremors were not expected to trigger giant waves.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes for its position on a vulnerable quake-stricken zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire.– NNN-ANTARA
