Pakistanis Warned Of Torrential Monsoon Rains, Flooding

ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (NNN-APP) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), has urged citizens and tourists yesterday, to take precautionary measures, in light of monsoon rainfall predictions, said an official.

PMD Director General, Mahr Sahibzad Khan, told local media that, everyone should refrain from unnecessary travelling and avoid landslide-prone areas.

The official emphasised that, children should be kept away from waterlogged areas, electrical wires, and poles, highlighting that the safety of people’s lives and property is the highest priority.

According to him, all the four provinces of the country, Gilgit Baltistan region and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, are expected to have intense spells of rain, wind and thundershowers, due to the weather system till Jul 21, which can cause flooding.

All the concerned government departments are in coordination to prevent any incidents, he said, adding that, the departments have been instructed to alert local communities, tourists, and travellers in high-risk areas.

Earlier on Wednesday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), also issued an alert, and warned of flash floods and urban flooding in parts of the country due to monsoon rains.

On Sunday, Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority, said in a statement that, at least 24 people were killed and 80 others injured, in rain-related incidents in the eastern province, this month.– NNN-APP
