Australian Police Arrested Suspect After Shooting Wounded Man In Tasmania

SYDNEY, Jul 18 (NNN-AAP) – Authorities arrested one man in the island state of Tasmania, after another was injured in a firearm incident, early today.

Just before 4:00 a.m. local time, emergency services were called by a neighbour to a house on Davies Street in George Town, a coastal area in Tasmania’s far north.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in his 20s sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital and remains stable.

At around 7:00 a.m. local time, the alleged offender was located by police at a property in George Town, as well.

The man, in his 40’s, was then safely taken into custody.

“Investigations are continuing, however, initial investigations indicate the offender and victim are known to each other,” said Tasmania Police.

With an estimated population of more than 7,000, George Town is located about 50 km north of Tasmania’s second-largest city, Launceston.– NNN-AAP
