Expired Medicines, Foodstuff Destroyed In W. Afghanistan

KABUL, Jul 18 (NNN-ANA) – Authorities in west Afghanistan’s Herat province, set on fire 60 tonnes of outdated medicines and foodstuff, yesterday, calling on drug stores and shopkeepers to avoid selling expired items, provincial director for quality checking of medicines and foodstuff, Sabour Ahmad Khaleqi, said.

“The outdated medicines, poor-quality items and foodstuff weighing more than 60 tonnes and worth more than 35 million afghanis (about 500,000 U.S. dollars) had been collected from drug stores and shops, over the past three months and were burned today (yesterday),” Khaleqi said, adding, such exercise would continue.

Three months ago, the authorities set on fire 65 tonnes of such expired products in Herat province, the official said.– NNN-ANA
