NEW DELHI, Jul 18 (NNN-PTI) – At least three militants were killed yesterday, in a gunfight with police, in the north-eastern state of Assam, officials said.

Three policemen were also reported wounded in the stand-off, and they have been hospitalised.

The gunfight, according to police, broke out in Bhuban Hills of Cachar district, about 330 km south-east of Dispur, the capital city of Assam.

“In an early morning operation, police killed three Hmar militants from Assam and neighbouring Manipur. Police also recovered two AK rifles, one other rifle, and one pistol,” Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said in a statement, posted on social media.

Police said, the gunfight was triggered after its personnel cordoned off the area, on specific intelligence suggesting the presence of militants.– NNN-PTI
