ULAN BATOR, Jul 15 (NNN-APA) – Four people drowned in rivers, in the eastern and western parts of Mongolia on Saturday, the country’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said, yesterday.
Three of the victims drowned in the Kherlen River in Kherlen soum (an administrative subdivision), in the eastern province of Dornod, while the fourth drowned in a river in Naranbulag soum of the western province of Uvs, according to a statement from the NEMA.
The victims were men aged between 34 and 60, who allegedly died while trying to swim under the influence of alcohol.
Water-related accidents in Mongolia are increasing during the ongoing national holiday of Naadam, due to the dramatic rise in the number of people travelling to the countryside, the emergency agency said, urging the public to take precautions, to protect themselves from preventable water-related accidents.– NNN-APA
