Kuwait To Chair UNSC For Third Time

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait, June 1 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait will chair on Saturday (today), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the third time in its history, during its 2018-19 non-permanent seat term.

It is an honour for Kuwait to preside over the UNSC proceedings, which reflects the important status of Kuwaiti diplomacy, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Mansour Al Otaibi, was quoted as saying.

Kuwait based its foreign policy on balance and moderation, in support of the UNSC mission to maintain peace and security.

With regard to the June meetings, Al Otaibi revealed that, the schedule for the UNSC would be packed with important issues concerning international community.

In 1979, Kuwait chaired the UNSC for the first time in its history, during its first tenure as a non-permanent member in 1978-79.

On June 2, 2018, the UN General Assembly elected Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Kuwait, Poland and Peru as non-permanent members of the UNSC, to serve a two-year term starting Jan 1, 2018.– NNN-KUNA
