NEW DELHI, Jul 14 (NNN-PTI) – At least four children have died and two others are undergoing treatment, for suspected infection of Chandipura virus, in the western Indian state of Gujarat, officials said yesterday.
The deaths have been reported at Himmat Nagar Civil Hospital, in Sabarkantha district, about 63 km north-east of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.
According to chief district health officer, Sabarkantha Raj Sutariya, the blood samples of all these children have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, for confirmation.
Health officials said, the Chandipura virus causes fever, with symptoms similar to flu, and acute inflammation of the brain. The pathogen is transmitted by vectors like mosquitoes, ticks and sand-flies.– NNN-PTI
