TEHRAN, Jul 12 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, yesterday, rejected claim by leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) that Tehran was providing Moscow with military support in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He made the remarks in a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reacting to part of a joint declaration issued at the end of a summit of NATO states’ leaders in Washington, Wednesday.
NATO accused Iran and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea of “providing direct military support” to Russia, in the war with Ukraine, thus fueling the conflict.
Kanaani said, Iran considered the claim to be “completely baseless and politically motivated” and rejected any bid to link the war in Ukraine to cooperation between Iran and Russia.
Kanaani stressed Iran’s commitment to helping ensure sustainable stability and security in the region and around the world, reiterating that, Iran had never supplied Russia with any drone for use against Ukraine.
He added, Iran still insisted upon the political resolution of the Ukraine crisis and the establishment of lasting peace.
Ukraine, as well as some Western countries, have accused Iran of exporting suicide drones and other arms to Russia for use in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Iran has repeatedly rejected the accusations as “baseless,” saying, it had only given “a limited number” of drones to Russia, months before the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.– NNN-IRNA
