Optimism high as Tanzania injects 286bn/- to construct Kilwa fishing port
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA

DAR ES SALAAM, July 12 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — In a significant move to boost the blue economy, the government has injected 286bn/- into the Kilwa Fishing Port construction project in Lindi region to enhance exports of sea products, including fish.

This investment aims to open deep-sea fishing opportunities and establish fish processing industries, crucial steps towards bolstering the country’s food supply chain.

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Edwin Mhede, stated this at an agricultural stakeholders’ meeting held in Dar es Salaam on Thursday. The meeting also saw the launch of the 2030 Agenda, with stakeholders from various countries gathering to discuss the state of Tanzania’s food system.

Minister for Agriculture, Hussein Bashe, urged financial institutions to rethink their support strategies for the sector to attract more youth into food production. The new policy aims to address three major obstacles that deter youth from entering agriculture: access to land, funding, and technology.

By overcoming these hurdles, the government is determined to encourage greater youth participation in agriculture and ensure a robust food system for the future, the Minister emphasized. This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
