Kenya: Seven dead, several injured in Garissa-Mwingi highway accident

NAIROBI, July 12 (NNN-KBC) — Seven people have been confirmed dead while several others have been evacuated to various hospitals for treatment after a tragic road accident occurred along the Garissa-Mwingi road within the Katumba Trading Center area.

The accident occurred at 1:30 AM on Friday.

According to traffic police on the scene, Hassan Bura was driving a Nissan UD bus, registration number KCZ 604A, belonging to Al-Mukaram Bus Service Company.

The bus, carrying 50 passengers, was travelling from Garissa towards Nairobi.

While attempting to overtake an unidentified vehicle that did not stop after the accident, Bura tried to return to his lane to avoid a head-on collision.

In the process, the bus collided with a stationary Mercedes-Benz trailer, registration number KBW 788H/ZG 0936, which was stalled on the road due to a mechanical breakdown.

The trailer was ferrying gypsum from Garissa.

Meanwhile, traffic police officers are currently at the scene, and further details will be provided as the investigation continues. — NNN-KBC
