ISLAMABAD, Jul 12 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), said yesterday that, it is closely monitoring rainfall and flood situation, as vigorous monsoon activity is predicted in the coming days across the country.
The PMD is assessing the weather situation promptly, through its over 100 observatories throughout the country, to keep all the stakeholders aware of any unusual weather to take precautions, PDM Director General, Mahr Sahibzad Khan told media.
Separate advisories for tourists and farmers are being issued to keep them well-informed about the weather, he said, adding that, the lightning detectors, provided by China, are also being utilised to gather data of lightning from across the country.
Khan said that the country has received eight percent above normal rainfall as of now, during the ongoing monsoon season, which will last till mid-Sept, and the monsoon activity is likely to increase in the coming days, in upper and central parts of the country.
From July to Sept, above-normal rainfall is expected in most parts of the country, with maximum departure over eastern Punjab and southern Sindh provinces, he added.– NNN-APP
