NEW DELHI, Jul 11 (NNN-PTI) – With a consistent expansion witnessed in India’s civil aviation industry, the country’s aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has issued fresh safety standards for the ground handling service providers at airports.
According to a statement from the DGCA yesterday, the ground handling service providers were required to obtain safety clearance within six months, from the DGCA. The six-month time period began on Jul 8.
Named as “Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR),” the new safety standards were drafted by the DGCA after due consultations with experts of the industry.
The move came, in response to a significant growth in aircraft movements, increased complexity in ground operations, and the rise of third-party ground handling services, said the DGCA statement.
The new safety norms also came against the backdrop of a growing number of ground incidents at some airports resulting in damage to aircraft.
The CAR specified the training and competency requirements of ground personnel, who were a part of ground operations at airports.
Domestic air passenger traffic has been on the rise in the country. Data showed that in Jun, it was estimated at 13.28 million, about 6.3 percent up year-on-year.– NNN-PTI
