NAIROBI, July 10 (NNN-KBC) — Two people have been confirmed dead after a 750-metre gold mine wall collapsed in Kanga, within Rongo, Migori county.

18 miners were at work at the Choppa gold mine when the walls caved in.

More than 10 people are still trapped in the mine as efforts to rescue them get underway. Four others are receiving treatment at Rongo sub-county hospital.

The Rongo Sub-county assistant commissioner has confirmed the tragic incident and is appealing for help with the rescue mission.

Tuesday’s incident comes just a week after seven artisanal miners lost their lives at the Kasweto gold mine in Lumba village, Rarieda sub-county. — NNN-AGENCIES
